What to Wear for Your First Dance Series with Galaw!
π What to Wear for Your First Dance Series with Galaw!
So you’ve signed up for your first dance class - amazing! Whether you’re gliding through Ballroom, feeling the heat in Bachata, or grooving with West Coast Swing, here’s exactly what you need to know before you step onto the dance floor.
Bachata Ladies Styling - Tuesdays 7:30pm
West Coast Swing - Wednesdays at 6:30pm
Sensual Bachata - Wednesdays at 7:30pm
Ballroom Dancing - Thursdays at 7:00pm
@ Emilia's Studio - 1842 E. Jericho Turnpike, Dix Hills (center of the plaza)
π What to Wear:
No fancy wardrobe needed - just clothes you feel comfortable moving in! Think casual, neat, and something that makes you feel good. Slacks, nice jeans, leggings, skirts or dresses that allow you to move freely all work well.
Shoes: You don’t need special dance shoes to start. Clean sneakers are fine - just try to pick a pair with a sole that isn’t too grippy so you can turn without sticking to the floor. Avoid flip-flops (they’ll fly off) and heavy boots (they stick and stomp!).
Ladies: If you have shoes with a smooth sole (like loafers or low heels), even better!
Men: Dress shoes with a leather sole would work perfectly fine!
π What to Bring:
-
A water bottle - you’ll break a sweat in the best way.
-
A small towel if you tend to get warm.
-
Breath mints - trust us, you’ll be glad you did during partner rotations!
-
Your best energy and maybe a friend to share the fun.
⏰ Arrive a Little Early:
Plan to arrive 5 - 10 minutes early, enough time to put your personal items down, change your shoes (if needed), and take a deep breath to shake off your day. You’ll feel more relaxed and ready to dance!
π What to Expect:
-
Expect to meet new people - partner dances usually rotate partners so you learn faster and dance with everyone.
-
Your instructor will break everything down step by step - no experience needed.
-
It’s normal to feel a little awkward at first - embrace it! Everyone is learning, everyone stumbles, and everyone laughs about it together.
-
You’ll leave class with new moves, new friends, and maybe a new favorite hobby.
✨ The most important thing to bring? A good attitude! Dancing is about connection, fun, and giving yourself permission to enjoy the learning process.
Keep this in mind "Learning Curve"
Think back to when you learned how to drive - remember how weird it felt at first?
You had to think about every step: seatbelt, mirrors, ignition. Now, it’s second nature.
Dancing is just like that. At first, it felt awkward. But the more you show up, the more natural it becomes. Be kind to yourself - you’re learning something brand new!
Can’t wait to see you on the dance floor! πͺ©π
