What to Know About Your First Dance Private Lesson at Galaw

Congratulations on taking the first step! Whether you're preparing for a wedding, looking to feel more confident on the dance floor, or simply trying something new, your private lesson is designed specifically for you.

πŸ“ Location:
Emilia's Studio
1842 E. Jericho Turnpike, Dix Hills, NY
(Center of the plaza)

πŸ‘— What to Wear:
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. No need to dress up, but dress to feel good! Leggings, slacks, jeans with stretch, skirts, or dresses that allow movement are all great options.

πŸ‘ž Shoes:
You don't need special dance shoes to start. Try to pick a pair with a sole that isn't too grippy so you can turn without sticking to the floor. Avoid flip-flops (they'll fly off) and heavy boots (they stick and stomp!).

For the best movement and to help protect your knees on the floor, please avoid sneakers if possible. Socks, dance shoes, or smooth/leather-soled shoes are recommended. If you arrive in sneakers, we may ask you to dance in socks or use shoe sliders ($5).

Dance shoes aren't required, but many students find they make turning easier, improve comfort, and help them progress faster.

If you start to enjoy dancing and want to upgrade, you can find beginner-friendly options on Amazon for around $25–$30:

• "Ladies ballroom shoes (1–2.5 inch heel)"
• "Men's ballroom shoes suede sole"

πŸ‘œ What to Bring:
• Water bottle
• Any questions or goals you have
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Arrive Early:
Please arrive 5 minutes early to settle in and get comfortable before your lesson begins.

πŸ’ƒ What to Expect:
Your lesson is completely personalized to you. We'll discuss your goals, assess your current experience level, and create a plan that helps you feel confident and successful.

No experience is required. Your instructor will break everything down step-by-step and work at a pace that feels comfortable.

πŸŒ€ Remember the Learning Curve
Think back to learning how to drive. At first, every little detail required your full attention. Eventually, it became automatic.

Dancing is the same way.

It's completely normal to feel awkward at first. Every dancer starts there. The key is showing up, practicing, and allowing yourself to enjoy the process.

✨ The most important thing to bring is patience with yourself. Progress comes from consistency, not perfection.

We can't wait to help you get moving and feeling confident on the dance floor!
